I started a sketch book a while back with the theme of authors and a character from one of their books. I have never done a sketch book but have always done drawings and sketches as individual pieces. So this has been a nice challenge to stay with a theme and draw in a book with a set size. I decided to do these in three colors. The graphite under drawing for structure and then the finish on top with indanthrene blue and pompeian red Polychromos pencils. These two pages were Robert Louis Stevenson and his character Billy Bones from Treasure Island. A classic book with many good characters to draw from but I chose Bones because I liked him and felt I could do a good pirate. I chose a Fabriano sketch book because I like the paper for this kind of drawing.
